About Stand Up Paddle Surfing
During the 1950s the new sport of surfing caught the eye of many thrill-seeking American tourists. The beach boys of Waikiki, who worked for Hawaii’s luxury hotels, were not only required to teach surfing but also photograph tourists as they took their very first wave. One of them came up with the brilliant idea of paddling out with a camera around his neck, to shoot full-length photos as they rode the same wave. Using an outrigger paddle to move around, the beach boys had come up with a new kind of surfing – “beachboy surfing”. Today its more commonly known as Stand Up Paddle Surfing.
Stand Up Paddle Surfing, Gold Coast
Although it’s been around a while, Stand Up Paddle Surfing is only just starting to take off on the Gold Coast. SUP boards are perfect for days when the surf is small; you can still head out for a paddle and catch a wave or two. The Gold Coasts’ inland waterways are also perfect for beginners wanting to learn the basics before heading out into the surf.
Tips for Beginners
